There are not many artists who debut with a number one that spends ten weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Alex Warren did that with Ordinary in 2025, and now the whole world is watching to see what he does next. Passenger is his answer, and honestly, it’s a good one.
The single dropped June 5, 2026 through Atlantic Records and serves as the first taste of his sophomore album Wildchild, due out August 28. Warren teased it the way only he would: a video of himself playing guitar through a car sunroof while his wife Kouvr drove him around. Silly, sweet, completely on brand. And it turns out that little clip basically tells you everything you need to know about the song.
The Sound
Adam Yaron is back on production, and the two of them clearly have a shorthand that works. Passenger is built around acoustic guitar, light and unhurried, with a chorus that gradually opens up without ever feeling forced. It’s a pop song, but it breathes. Nothing is crammed in or overproduced, and that restraint is what makes it stick.
Warren’s voice sounds relaxed in a way that feels new. On his debut there was always a sense of weight behind every note, which made sense given what he was writing about. Here he sounds like someone who has found his footing. That’s not a small thing.
The Lyrics
The song is about letting go of control and trusting the person next to you. Literally and figuratively. Warren has been open about how much Kouvr has kept him grounded through grief and the chaos of sudden fame, and that comes through here without the song ever feeling heavy. It’s grateful rather than sad. That’s a harder thing to pull off than most people realize.
The hook is simple. It gets in your head after one listen and stays there. That’s the whole job, and it does it well.
Looking Ahead
As lead singles go, Passenger is a smart one. It doesn’t try to repeat Ordinary or top it. It just moves forward, which is exactly what a second chapter should do. If Wildchild keeps this energy, Warren is going to have a very good summer.
Wildchild arrives August 28, 2026 via Atlantic Records.
